1948 Pontiac Silver Streak
Fleetleader Special Two-Door Sedan

As stated earlier, the car has a 6-cylinder L head engine.  In 1948 this engine pumped out some 90 HP and was probably quite capable of hauling the car's 3,300 lbs. down the roads adequately.  But the issue for me is that the engine is not capable of being "dressed up".  I have no intention of returning the car back to factory original; that was never the intent.

Rather, I am looking for a long term (four to five year) project that can keep me occupied mechanically and mentally and, at the same time, allow me to pursue building a car that I want.  So, even though the engine and its parts are all there (we don't even know if the crank turns over!) it will slowly be lifted out of the engine compartment to make way for either a more modern and "dressable" V8 or a V6.

What hasn't been stated on these pages is that the intent is to use as many of the original mechanical items as possible to not only reduce the overall project cost, but to also try to incorporate as much nostalgia as possible.

That radiator (below right) appears to be a good candidate for reusing.  Whether it leaks or not is unknown .. and whether it will handle the V8 or V6 that will be installed -- well, only time will tell, of course.
