2EEKD .....
what a strange name
Come on
now ... use your imagination ... and you'll realize the car's plate really says TWEEKED.
|
 |
The car started its life as an Avis rental car
and was bought by me in 1991 from a friend. Our
family used it as our main transportation until we had to do the dreaded minivan
thing. I
put together a small budget of $4,000 and the fun began.

First
I found a 4 bolt main 350 from a 76 pickup and had it hot tanked and bored .30
over to make it 355 cubic inches. With a lot
of help from friend Chris Orr, we installed an early 70's LT1 engine kit with
10.1:1 flat top pistons. Another
friend performed a three angle grind on the cylinder heads complete with performance valve
springs. |
Topping off the engine is a 327 HO intake manifold and a 750 cfm Rochester 4 barrel carb
with a manual choke. Air is ducted from under the front bumper via two 4 inch
ducts into a modified 14 inch chrome air cleaner, and the
distributor was upgraded to LT1 specs. Exhaust
is released via stock free flowing truck manifolds, 2 inch dual pipes, balance tube
and Flow Pro mufflers. Cooling is done by a stock water pump, 3 core truck rad and
an electric fan.

E.R.M. Automotive rebuilt a TH350 transmission and installed a Trans Go shift
kit, and a B&M Star Shifter was added after removing the column shifter. A tach was installed on the tilt steering column
as well as a steering wheel from a Cavalier. Mechanical gauges
were installed into the dash above the glove box. |
Original rear end gears were replaced with a Richmond 3.23:1 posi set up from a Firebird.
The front suspension was beefed up with heavy duty shocks and springs and
rad-to-engine cradle stiffening bars. The
rear suspension was upgraded to cargo coil springs with airbags, heavy duty shocks and a
sway bar. The wheels are from a Z28 and wear B.F.Goodrich tires. |

|
The car ran a respectful 14.7 @ 100 mph running on old 14 inch street tires.
2EEKD is a blast to drive
and has won numerous awards at Show n Shines in Manitoba starting with a First
in Class at it's very first show back in 1997 to a Second Place Award in June 2004.
As
time goes on I suspect that there will be more tweeking! |
