This gorgeous 1966 LeMans is an artful and painstaking rebuild of a tired and worn out car (see the as-purchased photo below).
Bought in May 2005 in Kansas, John Hallonquist bought the car unseen over
the Internet. John notes that "I met the carrier in Grand Forks,
opened the trunk and found a brand new OPG interior kit, still in the boxes,
everything from door panels, seat covers, to parcel tray and headliner."
When purchased, the car had 2 ½ inch stainless dual-exhaust front to back,
headers, aluminum intake, valve covers, and some very basic work done.
"There were new shocks and springs on all four corners of the car", adds
John. The car had a 1967 GTO front-end, and John has since replaced the fenders and grills to be a 1966 LeMans again, but kept the GTO hood. All other LeMans markings have been sourced and installed (except the 326 flags on the front fenders). "The frame was badly damaged when the car arrived, but a friend sourced me a replacement out of Arizona for $300 delivered. So the rebuild involved a frame sandblast and powder coat and we built it up from there. All the work has been done by my son and me, except the seat reconditioning and the engine rebuild. If we ever work all the bugs out of the car, it will be re-painted the original Candlelight Cream", adds John. Meanwhile, it undoubtedly gets lots of looks in that grey epoxy primer!
