Dave Wiebe unabashedly notes, "As with the generation before me, TV and movies were an influence on car culture. "While it was Smokey and the Bandit for the 70's, my favorite TV show was Knight Rider in the early 80's. It was only with the advent of the internet years later that I realized it was possible to replicate my dream car for real." Dave purchased a 1982 Trans Am from southern Ontario and had it shipped home back in 2000. He notes that the car is technically the 'correct' year for a KITT replica due to some '82 specific items like the front seats and rim/hubcap combinations. "Granted", he says, "it's possible to use any 82-92 Firebird with enough parts swapping."
The car still sports the original boat-anchor 305 Chevy topped with a Quadrajet. He has swapped in a TH350 auto trans with a higher stall in anticipation of a future engine replacement. The car was red exterior, black interior when purchased, but will be converted to black exterior, tan interior to replicate the TV car. It does have the red “scanner” light on the front of the car, and the dash is mostly complete with the gullwing steering wheel, lots of flashing lights, and a touchscreen monitor. There are a few other electronic tricks, but they're more fun to show in person!
And no, the car does not talk.....yet. But click on the video and relive Dave's Dream ...
